you are showing a tiny little tu...Dear Peter,
you are showing a tiny little turret on your terrace and call it a typical Algarvean chimney. But I'm sorry to say, that this is an example for todays degeneration of the traditional chimneys, which I am fighting for in our FB chimney group. An authentic chimney should at least have the dimensions of a good 200l barrel and be crafted individually.
Together with a couple of photos, which I'm not able to add to this comment, I have posted the following:

Quick ,easy and cheap is the doom for the traditional art of chimney building. The more of these industrial "Mickey Mouse" chimneys are installed, the more potential house builders - especially foreigners - think, this was the real Algarvean stile .... and copy it. - A self increasing loop.

By the way: If I were looking for an unspoiled place in the Algarve, the last one to go to would be Albufeira as well as Portimao, Quarteira and Monte Gordo. - Why not have a look at Tavira? ..... You would be delighted like most of the tourists, although I, living here, am also aware of many architectural mistakes.

With best regards,

Florian Fuhrmann ( flofu@sapo.pt )
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
